You certainly seem to be confronting the problem head-on. Hopefully your insurance policy is paying for all of the renovation and air quality testing. Sounds like a larger fire than a small electrical panel in the garage.
The steps you have taken seem to be in the right direction as far as purging the home with ozone, bringing in filtered fresh air, and changing suspect decor. However, it is unclear how well your central air filtering system is performing its function and in addition there is no mention of any attempt to remove gaseous pollutants from the air by the central air cleaning system.
The air is about 80% nitrogen and 20% oxygen. Clearly, air will pass through an air cleaner even with high efficiency filters. This is due to the very small molecular size of the nitrogen and oxygen molecules. Analogously, there are other gaseous substances in the air, considered pollutants, which also cannot be filtered even with high efficiency filters. Removal of these gaseous pollutants calls for a different technique identified as adsorption. The most common substance used for this purpose is a form of activated carbon of which there are many. Sometimes the carbon is mixed with a natural substance called zeolite and/or alumina potassium permanganate to extend the spectrum of gaseous substances which may be trapped.
We highly recommend that you consider installation of sorbent media in the form of carbon/zeolite/alumina potassium permanganate to capture these residual pollutants.
It so happens that we carry an excellent central air cleaning system that not only contains the necessary sorbent media but also has high efficiency filters to capture particulates such as dust, pollen, mold spores, smoke, and other respirable particles. This system is easily installed with minimal impact on your existing heating/air conditioning system because it literally "piggybacks" onto your existing system. How? The machine as its own blower. It is attached to the existing duct and draws off a percentage of the air flow, passes it through the filters and sorbent media, and then places the cleaned air back into the HVAC duct. This machine may also be configured in a way that clean fresh air is continuously brought into the house as well. This particular machine is not currently represented on our website. If you are interested in exploring this as a potential solution to your problem please provide us with a fax number and we will send you the appropriate product literature, technical details, and pricing.
